Lobos Battle Javelinas

ALPINE, Texas – Freshman Baylie Savage had three hits as the Sul Ross State University softball team (4-22 Lone Star Conference, 6-27) lost 10-2 and 10-2 to Texas A&M Kingsville (18-6 LSC, 23-11), Friday afternoon at Lobo Softball Field. 

Game-1
Texas A&M Kingsville jumped out quickly, scoring three runs in the first inning.  In the second inning, with one out, freshman Samantha Galindo was at second and Savage at first.

Senior Elizabeth Clemente singled to score Galindo.  Savage would go to third and Clemente to second on the throw home.  Sophomore Carissa Fernandez walked to load the bases. 

Following a fly out, junior Samantha Bustos singled to push Savage across the plate to make it 3-2.  Down 5-2 going into the bottom of the fourth, the Lobos loaded the bases.

The Javelinas got out of the jam, then scored five runs in the sixth to seal it.

For Sul Ross State, freshman Jaclyn Pate (2-10) gave up 11 hits, 10 runs with seven earned, walked four and struck out two in 5.7 innings.

For Texas A&M Kingsville, Kristina Nash (6-1) gave up one hit, one walk and struck out one in 2.3 innings.

Game-2
In the night cap, TAMUK scored six runs in the first inning to effectively end the game.

For Sul Ross State, Savage had two hits.  Freshman Addison Castilleja (2-4) gave up three hits and four runs.

For Texas A&M Kingsville, Kailee Silva (2-1) gave up three hits and struck out one in three innings.

Sul Ross State takes to the road, Friday, Apr. 10, playing UT Permian Basin.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
