Lobos Split Up Comets

RICHARDSON, Texas – Senior Elizabeth Clemente had five hits as the Sul Ross State University softball team (2-20 Lone Star Conference, 4-25) split with UT Dallas (7-13 LSC, 9-17), Sunday afternoon at UTD Softball Field.  The Lobos won 9-0 in six inning, then lost 5-4 in game two.

Game-1
In the second inning, with one out, two walks and a single loaded the basses.  Sul Ross State scored on a sacrifice fly and a single to go up 2-0.

The Lobos would take a 5-0 lead into the sixth inning.  Junior Valeria Aguilar and freshman Baylie Savage each hit two-run home runs to put SRSU up 9-0.  Sul Ross State set the Comets down 1-2-3 in the sixth for the win.

For Sul Ross State, Aguilar had three hits, scored two runs and drove in three runs while sophomore Carissa Fernandez and Savage each had two hits with two RBI's.  Freshman Jaclyn Pate (1-9) threw a two-hitter with five strikeouts in six innings.

For UT Dallas, Savannah Vanderpool (2-2) gave up five hits, four runs, walked two and struck out two in 2.7 innings.

Game-2
In the night cap, UTD took a 5-0 lead into the seventh inning.  With two outs, Savage singled to start the Lobo comeback rally.

Clemente laced a double to left centerfield to score Savage.  Clemente would score when UT Dallas misplayed the ball hit by Fernandez.

Junior Samantha Bustos hit the first pitch over the fence in left field to make it 5-4.  Following a single by sophomore Jenna Leanos, the Comets got the next batter out to end the game.

For Sul Ross State, Clemente had three hits while Leanos extended her reaching base safely streak to 13 games.  Junior Larryn Rooks (0-7) gave up three hits and three runs in one inning.

For UT Dallas, Katie Hart (2-1) gave up seven hits, four runs with one unearned, walked one and struck out six in seven innings.

Sul Ross State is back home, Wednesday, Apr. 1, taking on Texas A&M International.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
