Lobos Close Out Series With Buffs

ALPINE, Texas – The Sul Ross State University baseball team (1-25 Lone Star Conference, 1-25) lost 19-5 to West Texas A&M (Receiving Votes) 18-8 LSC, 18-8), Sunday afternoon at Kokernot Field.

West Texas A&M took a 5-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning.  Freshman Max Wiggins led off the inning with a single to break up the no-hitter.

Following an out, freshman Jayden Hernandez drew a walk.  Junior Jacob Binder ripped a double to score Wiggins and move Hernandez to third.

Senior Brock Rogers drew a walk and freshman Juan Garcia doubled to score Hernandez and Binder and push Rogers to third.  With the runners going, sophomore Aaron Flores singled to move Rogers and Garcia across the plate.

That tied the game at 5-5.  Starting with the sixth inning, the Buffs scored 14 runs over the next three innings to take control.

For Sul Ross State, Garcia had two hits.  Junior Isaac Lopez (0-6) gave up four hits, three runs and struck out one in one inning. 

For West Texas A&M, Riley Kettner (5-1) gave up two hits and struck out six in 4.7 innings.

Sul Ross State hits the road, Friday, Mar. 20, taking on Eastern New Mexico.  The game is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m., Mountain Time
