Lobos Split Up Pioneers

DENTON, Texas – Friday the 13th was a good day as the Sul Ross State University softball team (1-13 Lone Star Conference, 3-18) split with Texas Woman's (8-6 LSC, 11-13), at Dianne Baker Field.  The Lobos lost 9-0 and won the nightcap 7-2, the second straight year this has happened against TWU.

Game-1
In the third inning, Sul Ross State had two runners on with two outs.  Texas Woman's got the third out and sealed the game with six runs in the bottom half.

For Sul Ross State, junior Samantha Bustos had two hits.  Freshman Jaclyn Pate (0-7) gave up 10 hits, six runs with five earned in 2.3 innings.

For Texas Woman's, Randi Crawford threw a four-hitter with seven strikeouts in five innings.

Game-2
In the night cap, the Lobos struck first.  Bustos ripped a double and scored on a single from sophomore Andrea Apodaca.  The Pioneers scored twice in the second inning for a 2-1 lead that went through five innings.

In the sixth inning, SRSU used three hits, three errors, two walks and a hit by pitch to put six runs up on the board.  Sul Ross State allowed just one baserunner over the last two innings to take the win.

For Sul Ross State, sophomore Janelle Leanos (2-4) gave up four hits, two runs, walked three and struck out two in seven innings.

For Texas Woman's, Caydence Gaddis (3-5) gave up five hits, two runs, walked two and struck out one batter in three innings.

Sul Ross State closes out the road trip, Sunday, Mar. 15, taking on UT Tyler.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m..
