Buffs Take Opener Over the Lobos

Alpine, Texas – Sul Ross State University Baseball opened the four-game Lone Star Conference series Friday afternoon against the Buffs of West Texas A&M University at Kokernot Field. The Buffs took game one of the series with a 25–11 final over the Lobos.

Sul Ross came out strong early, answering a two-run first inning by the Buffs with a four-run bottom half highlighted by a grand slam from Max Wiggins. Wiggins finished the game with four RBIs, while Jacob Binder added a home run and two RBIs. Corbin Montayne also provided a key offensive moment with a bases-clearing double in the fifth inning that brought in three runs, while Leo Salas went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a triple. Alfonso Lopez scored twice and added a double and stolen base as the Lobos continued to battle offensively.

The Lobos and Buffs continue the four-game Lone Star Conference series Saturday, Mar. 14 with a doubleheader scheduled for 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM at Kokernot Field in Alpine.
