Lobos Fall To Saints

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Junior Samantha Bustos and freshman Baylie Savage had four hits each as the Sul Ross State University softball team (2-5) lost 12-8 and 8-0 to Our Lady of the Lake (4-0), Saturday afternoon at Saints Field. 

Game-1
Sul Ross State struck in the first inning using two walks and three hits to score three runs.  Our Lady of the Lake returned the favor scoring three in the bottom of the second inning.

In the third inning, senior Elizabeth Clemente drew a walk.  The Saints misplayed the ball hit by sophomore Carissa Fernandez allowing Clemente to score and Fernandez to reach second.

Savage was hit by a pitch and freshman Karissa Ventura singled to score Fernandez.  That made it 5-3, Lobos.

After giving up a run in the third, SRSU took advantage of two walks and two hits to go up 6-4 heading into the bottom of the fourth.  OLLU scored eight runs over the next three innings to take control.

For Sul Ross State, Bustos had three hits and scored twice while Savage had three hits and drove in two runs.  Sophomore Janelle Leanos (1-1) gave up 17 hits and nine runs in 4.3 innings.

For Our Lady of the Lake, Annika Litterio (1-0) gave up five hits, one run, walked one and struck out four in 3.7 innings.

Game-2
Our Lady of the Lake scored four runs in the first inning to effectively seal the game.

For Sul Ross State, freshman Addison Castilleja (1-1) gave up one hit, four runs and walked two in one-third of an inning.

For Our Lady of the Lake, Litterio (2-0) threw a four-hitter with six strikeouts.

Sul Ross State opens the home and Lone Star Conference season, Friday, Feb. 13 taking on UT Dallas.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m..
