Lobos Duel With Mustangs

ALPINE, Texas – Junior Samantha Bustos and sophomore Jenna Leanos had four hits each as the Sul Ross State University softball team (0-8 Lone Star Conference, 2-13) lost 13-2 and 6-0 to Western New Mexico (6-2 LSC, 10-8), Saturday afternoon at Lobo Softball Field. 

Game-1
Western New Mexico held the Lobos to three hits to take a 5-0 lead going into the sixth inning.  Bustos singled and was replaced on the bases by freshman Samantha Galindo.

Following an out, sophomore Andrea Apodaca sent the ball flying over the left field fence to make it 5-2.  The Mustangs sealed the game in the top of the seventh inning.

For Sul Ross State, Apodaca, Bustos and Leanos had two hits each.  Freshman Jaclyn Pate (0-4) gave up 13 hits, 13 runs with 11 earned, walked three and struck out three in seven innings.

For Western New Mexico, Alixe De Anda (3-2) gave up seven hits, two runs, walked one and struck out eight in seven innings.

Game-2
Western New Mexico scored five runs over the first three innings to take control.

For Sul Ross State, Bustos and Leanos had two hits apiece.  Freshman Addison Castilleja (1-2) gave up six hits, six runs with five earned, walked four and struck out six in seven innings.

For Western New Mexico, Labraida Tenorio (3-3) threw a five hitter with four strikeouts in seven innings.

Sul Ross State remains home, Friday, Mar. 6, taking on Eastern New Mexico.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m..
