Lobos Battle Tough Against Greyhounds

ALPINE, Texas – Junior Samantha Bustos and sophomore Jenna Leanos had four hits each as the Sul Ross State University softball team (0-10 Lone Star Conference, 2-15) lost 2-1 and 11-7 to Eastern New Mexico (5-5 LSC, 9-8), Friday afternoon at Lobo Softball Field. 

Game-1
In the first inning, Bustos hit a towering shot over the left field fence to put Sul Ross State up 1-0.  The Lobos held the lead until Eastern New Mexico scored twice in the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, SRSU refused to quit as Leanos and Bustos led off with singles.  The Greyhounds got three straight outs to end the threat.

For Sul Ross State, Bustos and Leanos had two hits each.  Freshman Jaclyn Pate (0-5) gave up four hits, two runs, walked four and struck out one in seven innings.

For Eastern New Mexico, Miranda Guillen (4-2) gave up six hits, one run, walked five and struck out eight in seven innings.

Game-2
Eastern New Mexico scored eight runs in the first inning to effectively seal the game.

For Sul Ross State, Bustos, senior Elizabeth Clemente and Leanos had two hits apiece.  Junior Larryn Rooks (0-5) gave up three hits, six runs and walked two in one-third of an inning.

For Eastern New Mexico, Marissa Rodriguez (2-1) gave up seven hits, four runs with one earned and struck out four batters in 5.3 innings.

Sul Ross State is home, Sunday, Mar. 8, taking on #3 West Texas A&M.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m..
