Javelinas Take Game One at Kokernot Field

Alpine, Texas – Sul Ross State University Baseball (1–14, 1–14 LSC) opened its four-game Lone Star Conference series against Texas A&M University–Kingsville (9–6, 9–6 LSC) Friday afternoon at Kokernot Field, falling 9–3 in the series opener.

Sul Ross struck first in the bottom of the first inning as Leo Salas delivered a solo home run to give the Lobos an early lead. Texas A&M–Kingsville responded with timely hitting to build its advantage, but the Lobos continued to compete throughout the contest, adding a run in the seventh inning on an RBI double by Max Wiggins. Salas finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Wiggins and Jayden Hernandez each drove in a run. Sul Ross totaled eight hits on the afternoon and received solid relief efforts from Jacob Schwope and Macen Probition as the Lobos battled into the late innings.

The Lobos and Javelinas continue the series Saturday, February 28, with a doubleheader at Kokernot Field. First pitch for Game 2 is scheduled for 12:00 p.m., with Game 3 set to follow approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 2.
