Lobos See Rattlers Slip Away

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Sul Ross State University softball team (0-6 Lone Star Conference, 2-11) lost 9-0 and 12-1 to St. Mary's (Texas) (4-2 LSC, 12-7), Sunday afternoon at The Park at STMU. 

Game-1
Sul Ross State had two runners on in the first inning.  St. Mary's managed to hold off the Lobos.  Up 3-0, the Rattlers sealed the game with six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

For Sul Ross State, freshman Jaclyn Pate (0-3) gave up nine hits, nine runs with two earned, walked two and struck out three in four innings.

For St. Mary's, Emily Ayala (2-1) threw a four-hitter with one walk and one strikeout in five innings.

Game-2
St. Mary's had a 2-0 lead after two innings.  In the third inning, sophomore Jenna Leanos singled with two outs.

Leanos moved to third when the Rattlers misplayed the ball hit by junior Samantha Bustos.  Leanos stole home to make it 2-1.  SMU took control scoring nine runs in the bottom half.

For Sul Ross State, junior Larryn Rooks (0-4) gave up six hits, seven runs, walked three and struck out one in 2.3 innings.

For St. Mary's, Ariella Saenz (5-3) gave up three hits, one run which was unearned, walked one and struck out four in five innings.

Sul Ross State is home, Saturday, Feb. 28, taking on Western New Mexico.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m..
