Lobos Fall To Hilltoppers

AUSTIN, Texas – The Sul Ross State University softball team (0-4 Lone Star Conference, 2-9) lost 6-1 and 10-2 to St. Edward's (3-1 LSC, 5-8), Friday afternoon at Diane Daniels Field. 

Game-1
St. Edward's scored twice in the bottom of the third to take the lead.  In the top of the fourth with one out, sophomore Andrea Apodaca smacked a double.

Sophomore Alexandra Ramos doubled to right field to score Apodaca and make it 2-1.  The Hilltoppers sealed the game with four runs in the bottom of the fifth.

For Sul Ross State, Ramos had three hits and Apodaca had two hits.  Junior Larryn Rooks (0-3) gave up seven hits, four runs, walked one and struck out one in 4.7 innings.

For St. Edward's, Maddie Aguilar (1-3) gave up four hits, one run and struck out in four innings.  Haley Carmona (1) gave up two and struck out one in three innings.

Game-2
St. Edward's held a 4-0 lead after three innings.  In the fourth, two errors and a fielder's choice had sophomore Jenna Leanos at third and freshman Baylie Savage at first.

Senior Erica Clemente singled and moved to second on a throw home.  Savage went to third and Leanos scored off the hit.  Apodaca grounded out to push Savage across the plate.

SEU scored six runs over the next two innings to get the win.

For Sul Ross State, sophomore Janelle Leanos (1-2) gave up nine hits, nine runs with six earned, walked three and struck out four in 3.3 innings.

For St. Edward's, Kylen Padgett (4-3) gave up one hit, two runs with neither earned and struck out two in five innings.

Sul Ross State remains on the road, Sunday, Feb. 22 playing St. Mary's (Texas).  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m..
