Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lobos See Greyhounds Squeeze By

PORTALES, New Mexico – It was a heartbreaker as the Sul Ross State University women's soccer team (1-7-2 Lone Star Conference, 1-9-3) lost 2-1 to Eastern New Mexico (1-8 LSC, 2-10-1), Wednesday night at Al Whitehead Field.

Sul Ross State and Eastern New Mexico got strong goaltending to keep the ball out of the net for the first 23 minutes of the game.  The Greyhounds scored at the 23:03 mark.

With 1:31 left in the first half, junior Gabby Trevino made a great move to the left.  She fired the ball into the upper right corner to tie it up.

In the second half, the Lobos had a strong scoring opportunity that was denied by a great play from the ENMU keeper.  Eastern New Mexico scored at the 77:43 mark and held SRSU off.

Sul Ross State had nine shots with four on goal, one corner kick and were called for nine fouls.  Freshman Kat Graves finished with 10 saves, her sixth double-digit game of the season.

Eastern New Mexico had 18 shots with 12 on goal, five corner kicks and were called for two fouls.

Sul Ross State head coach John Dominguez
"This is a disappointing result, especially after the progress we've shown over the last few games.  We had moments where we played well and created opportunities, but at this level, consistency is everything.  We can't compete with some of the best teams in the conference and then fail to maintain that same standard the next.

That's something we have to take responsibility for, starting with myself.  I still believe in this group and what we're building.  We need to learn from these moments, stay together, and continue moving forward."

Sul Ross State is home for senior day, Saturday, Oct. 17, playing UT Tyler.  The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
