Lobos Split On The Road

LOS LUNAS, New Mexico – Sophomore Alexandra Ramos had five hits as the Sul Ross State University softball team (1-1) split on Day 1 of the South Central Regional Crossover.  The Lobos beat SW Oklahoma State 5-2 and had a heartbreaking 15-13 loss to UC Colorado Springs.

The Bulldogs scored a run in the first and held that lead going into the bottom of the sixth.  Sul Ross State put its first three batters on.

SWOSU turned a double play, leaving freshman Samantha Galindo at third and sophomore Carissa Fernandez at second.  Ramos singled to centerfield to score Galindo and move Fernandez to third.

Freshman Karissa Ventura walked to load the bases; followed by a hit by pitch to junior Valeria Aguilar to score a run.  Freshman Baylie Savage ripped a single to score two runs.

In the top of the seventh, SW Oklahoma State scored a run and had two on with one out.  SRSU got two fly outs to end the game.

For Sul Ross State, Ramos had two hits and Savage drove in two runs.  Sophomore Janelle Leanos (1-0) gave up two hits, one run which was unearned and walked two in two innings.  Junior Larryn Rooks had a strong performance giving up five hits, one run which was unearned and striking out five in five innings.

For SW Oklahoma State, Kirsten Sudderth (0-1) gave up one hit, four runs and walked two in two-thirds of an inning.

UC Colorado Springs (2-0)
The Mountain Lions took a 6-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning.  Sophomore Andrea Apodaca led off with a solo home run over the left field fence.

Senior Elizabeth Clemente reached on an error and Ramos knocked out a base hit.  Junior Kaitlynn Frakes crushed a triple to clear the bases.  Frakes would score on a single by sophomore Jenna Leanos.

UCCS outscored the Lobos 5-1 over the next two innings to lead 11-5 heading into the bottom half of the sixth.  SRSU used six walks and four hits to explode for eight runs to take a 13-11 lead.

UC Colorado Springs stunned Sul Ross State with four runs in the top of the seventh.  In the bottom half, Clemente walked with one out.  The Mountain Lions got the next two batters out to end the game.

For Sul Ross State, Leanos had three hits and drove in three runs, Apodaca had three hits and scored three times and Ramos had three hits.  Freshman Jaclyn Pate (0-1) gave up 13 hits, nine runs with eight earned and struck out one in 3.2 innings.

For UC Colorado Springs, Kailey Bond (1-0) walked two and struck out two in 1.1 innings.

Sul Ross State stays in New Mexico, Saturday, Jan. 31 taking on Adams State and New Mexico Highlands.  The games are scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively MT.
