Lobos And Eagles Slug It Out

ALPINE, Texas – The Sul Ross State University men's basketball team (0-8 Lone Star Conference, 2-11) lost 80-59 to Oklahoma Christian (4-5 LSC, 9-6), Thursday night at the Pete P. Gallego Center.

In the first half, Sul Ross State and Oklahoma Christian went back-and-forth the first three minutes.  Up 6-5 at the 17:00 mark, junior Camren Roper hit a tough shot in the paint.

That started a 12-5 run, ended by a bomb from Marfa by freshman Julien Barclay.  That put the Lobos up 18-10 with 14 minutes left.

The Eagles put up a 12-3 run to lead 22-21 at the 10:14 mark.  SRSU and OCU traded buckets the rest of the half.  Junior Tim Mikhailov knocked one down from left field at the buzzer to make it 39-36, Oklahoma Christian at the half.

In the second half, Sul Ross was down 47-46 at the 14:23 mark.  Over the next three minutes, the Eagles went on a 10-2 run to effectively end the contest.

For Sul Ross State, junior Keagan Moncrief was 6-of-11 from the floor to finish with 15 points, Mikhailov scored 12 points and Roper had 12 points and two steals.

For Oklahoma Christian, Elijah Bailey had 20 points.

Sul Ross State remains home, Saturday, Jan. 17 taking on Cameron.  The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
