Lobos Slug It Out With ThunderWolves

PUEBLO, Colo. – It was another hard fought battle as the Sul Ross State University men's soccer team (0-2) lost 3-0 to #3 Colorado State Pueblo (1-0-1), Saturday afternoon at Gonzales Stadium.

Sul Ross State and Colorado State Pueblo played tight defense in not allowing very many chances in the first half.

The ThunderWolves scored just 1:24 into the second half.  At the 49:54 mark, sophomore Sean Carlos Rivera had a shot that just missed.  CSUP scored with just under 27 minutes to go to effectively seal the game.

Sul Ross State Head Coach Bailey Guffin
"Disappointed to leave Colorado without three points. Pueblo has a ton of quality and once they found grip of the big moments, we weren't able to recover.  We had some good moments ourselves, but we have to be more clinical and be willing to suffer a little longer defensively. We still have positives we'll take away and we'll be getting back on track in Laredo next weekend."

Sul Ross State had eight shots with five on goal, one corner kick and were called for five fouls.  Sophomore Benjamin Aviles finished with 11 saves, tied for second most in program history.

CSU Pueblo had 19 shots with 13 on goal, five corner kicks and were called for six fouls.

Sul Ross State keeps to the road, Friday, Sept. 12, playing Adams State.  The game is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.
