Lobos Go To War With Mountain Lions

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Sul Ross State University men's soccer team (0-1) left it all on the field in a 2-1 loss to #17 UC Colorado Springs (1-0), Thursday night at Mountain Lion Stadium.

UC Colorado Springs struck first scoring at the 5:39 mark.  The defense, led by sophomore Benjamin Aviles, made several key plays to keep the game close.

A little over six minutes into the second half, sophomore Diego Hernandez blasted a shot that the Mountain Lion keeper managed to knock away.  Sophomore Jesus Duque jumped on the rebound and knocked it into the twine.

That made it 1-1.  With 20:49 to go, Hernandez had a shot that just missed to the right.  UCCS snuck one past Aviles to go up 2-1 at the 71:29 mark.

Freshman Oumar Bah blasted a shot that the keeper had to make a diving save to keep it out of the net at the 75:50 mark.  With 26 seconds left, Aviles blasted a shot that was on target.  The Mountain Lions managed to block it at the last minute.

The guys put up a really good fight, but we aren't satisfied just yet. We expect a reaction come Saturday for an even bigger test vs Pueblo. We will be ready."
