Sul Ross State Competes At Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas – It was PR's all the way around as the Sul Ross State University cross country team ran at the Mountaineer Hill Country Invitational, Saturday. All 10 runners ran a PR.

For the women (6K), Southwestern edged Texas A&M International, 29-30. The Lobos scored 152 points to place sixth.

The top runner was senior Ariana Escalante who ran 26:18.70 to finish 12^th. Her time broke into the top 10 in program history. Rounding out the squad was sophomore Jenna Leanos (29:28.50 – 27^th), freshman Olivia Hoelscher (32:24.90 – 36^th), freshman Josabeth Hernandez (32:29.80 (37^th) and junior Janel Luna (47:30 – 40^th).

For the men (8K), Texas A&M International and Southwestern both scored 53 points. TAMI got first on a tiebreaker. The Lobos scored 224 points to place sixth.

The top runner was senior Manny Flores who ran 30:25 to place 34^th. Rounding out the squad was senior Carles Guerrero (32:04 – 44^th), sophomore Francisco Santacruz (34:24.90 – 46^th), sophomore Kendall Beard (37:16.20 – 49^th) and Racer Portillo (40:13.60 – 51^st).

Sul Ross State will run at the Hill Cross Country Classic, Friday, Sept. 26. The meet is in Hillsboro.
