Lobos Earn Confidence-Boosting Win Before Conference Play

ALPINE, Texas – Sul Ross State women's soccer earned a strong 3-1 victory over Southwest (N.M.) on Saturday afternoon at Lobo Soccer Field, wrapping up the week on a high note before conference play.

Cali Triggs had a breakout day, scoring the first two goals of the match to secure her first collegiate win and spark the Lobos' offense. Triggs opened the scoring with the second-fastest goal in program history, giving Sul Ross an early lead. After Southwest evened the score, Triggs quickly delivered her second goal to put the Lobos back in front.

Kari Villatorro added an insurance goal late in the match, capping off the 3-1 victory and sealing Sul Ross' first home win of the season. The Lobos finished with 10 total shots, while goalkeeper Emily Finlinson recorded 13 saves for her first collegiate victory.

Head coach John Dominguez praised the team's effort, saying, "The team came out and showed effort today to get the win. The girls all worked together, and this is great momentum for us to carry over into our first conference game next week. Go Lobos!"

With the 3-1 victory, Sul Ross closed the week at 1-1 and built confidence heading into conference play. The Lobos will look to carry their momentum on the road Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 5:00 PM, when they travel to face Lubbock Christian in the conference opener.
