Bonilla And Vasquez Earn LSC Scholar-Athlete Award

ALPINE, Texas – Cheyanne Bonilla (Women's Basketball) and Primo Vasquez (Baseball) received the Lone Star Conference Scholar-Athlete Award for the 2024-25 school year.
 
Each academic year, the conference presents a Scholar-Athlete award to one male and one female student-athlete who is a member of the graduating class at each LSC member institution. Award recipients are selected by their campus and represent outstanding accomplishments in scholarship. athletics, and leadership. Honorees must have participated for at least two years in their sport.
 
Bonilla (majoring in Health and Human Performance) had a very solid year for SRSU.  She averaged 11.96 points, 3.40 assists and 2.08 steals per game and shot 74.5% from the line. For the LSC, Bonilla was ranked among the top 10 in steals per game (3rd – 2.08), minutes per game (4th – 33.56) and assists per game (3.40).

Bonilla had 10 assists against Western New Mexico (Nov. 23, 2024) and Eastern New Mexico (Jan. 14, 2025), only the second player in school history to have 10+ assists in a game twice and the second to do it twice in the same season.  She was named to the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll for the Spring 2025 semester.  For her career, Bonilla finished eighth in assists (163) and had per game averages of 3.47 assists and 2.09 steals.

Vasquez (majoring in Sports Administration) had a strong season for the Lobos.  He had 10 doubles and four home runs, scored 27 runs, drove in 31 runs, drew 21 walks and batted .325.  Vasquez was named to the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll for the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters.

Vasquez had a 14-game reaching base safely streak, was fourth in school single-season history in at-bats (169) and in three seasons scored 81 runs, drove in 77 runs, had 36 extra base hits and batted .345.
