Lobos Recognize Their Seniors

ALPINE, Texas – A school record was broken as the Sul Ross State University baseball team (3-44 Lone Star Conference, 4-45) lost 10-5 and 13-1 to Oklahoma Christian (12-35 LSC, 13-36), Saturday at Kokernot Field. In between the doubleheader, SRSU recognized its 14 seniors.

Game 1
The Lobos went on the attack in the first inning.  Senior Estevan Ortiz drew a walk and fifth year player Primo Vasquez knocked out a single.

A passed ball moved the runners; then junior Joseph Binder smacked a double to clear the bases.  Binder would score on a failed pickoff attempt.  That made it 3-0, SRSU.

The Eagles scored six runs over the next two innings to take control.

For Sul Ross State, Binder had two hits (double, home run), scored two runs and drove in four runs.  In the sixth inning, sophomore Rene Ramos was hit by a pitch.  That was the 52nd hit-by-pitch for the Lobos, breaking the school record.

Senior Alvaro Hernandez (0-5) gave up five hits, seven runs with six earned, walked four and struck out two in five innings.

For Oklahoma Christian, Chris Jones (5-4) gave up five hits, five runs with four earned, walked one and struck out four in six innings.

Game 2
OCU scored four runs in the second inning to effectively seal the game.

For Sul Ross State, Ramos broke up the no-hitter in the fourth inning with a solo home run.  Senior Jacob Salinas (0-8) gave up five hits, six runs, walked seven and struck out two in four innings.

For Oklahoma Christian, Tristan Copeland (2-4) gave up two hits, one run, walked one and struck out 13 in seven innings.

Sul Ross State wraps up the season, Sunday, Apr. 27 against Oklahoma Christian.  The game is scheduled to start at noon.
