Lobos Battle Aggies

LAWTON, Ok. – Sophomore Vivian Jimenez had four hits as the Sul Ross State University softball team (2-12 Lone Star Conference, 5-18) lost 4-1 and 3-2 to Cameron (6-8 LSC, 11-9), Friday at McMahon Field.

Game 1
In the second inning, with two outs, junior Kyndell Garcia was at second and junior Adriana Hernandez was on first.  Junior Elizabeth Clemente ripped a single up the middle to score Garcia.

The Aggies scored three runs in the fourth inning to take the lead.  The Lobos had at least one runner on in each of the last three innings.  Cameron managed to keep them off the boards.

For Sul Ross State, senior Ciera Avila and Jimenez had two hits each.  Junior Leanza Chambers (1-9) gave up six hits and three runs in four innings.

For Cameron, Stormee Reed (1-0) gave up seven hits, one run, walked two and struck out five in seven innings.

Game 2
The Aggies scored a run in the first inning; then held off SRSU until the sixth inning.  Freshman Alexandra Ramos and Avila both reached on errors.

Following a ground out that moved the runners, senior Jasmine Garcia singled to score Ramos and move Avila to third.  A walk loaded the bases for Clemente.  Her ground ball allowed Avila to score and make it 2-1, Sul Ross State.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Cameron scored twice to steal the game.

For Sul Ross State, J. Garcia and Jimenez had two runs each.  Senior Alyvia Quintana (1-5) gave up six hits, three runs with two earned and walked four in six innings. 

For Cameron, Tinley Schmidgal (1-0) gave up five hits, two runs (neither earned), walked two and struck out one in seven innings.

Sul Ross State remains on the road, Sunday, Mar. 9 playing Oklahoma Christian.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at noon.
