Lobos See Mustangs Get By

ALPINE, Texas –Seniors Cam Clardy and Ethan Yancy scored at least 20 points each as the Sul Ross State University men's basketball team (2-14 Lone Star Conference, 3-18) lost 75-63 to Midwestern State (11-4 LSC, 16-5), Thursday night at the Pete P. Gallego Center.

Midwestern State came out quick, scoring the first nine points of the game.  Sul Ross State got back-to-back buckets from Yancy to make it 9-4 at the 16:52 mark.

The Mustangs looked to be in control, up 37-18 with 5:55 to go in the first half.  The Lobos came storming back with a 17-4 blast.

Yancy knocked one down from the rafters to make it 41-35 with 24 seconds left.  MSU scored just before the half ended to lead by eight.

In the second half, Midwestern State went on another run to lead 64-45 with 9:24 left.  SRSU wasn't going to go down without a fight.

Clardy knocked down a free throw to cut the gap to eight, 71-63 at the 1:50 mark.  The Mustangs held off Sul Ross State for the win.

The Lobos pulled down 18 defensive rebounds to just nine offensive for MSU.  That played a factor in the Mustangs getting only six second chance points.

For Sul Ross State, Yancy had 21 points,10 rebounds, three steals and shot 7-of-13 from the floor while Clardy scored 20 points with four triples.  Senior Tyler Jackson scored 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor.

For Midwestern State, Mason Gibson scored 21 points.

Sul Ross State remains home, Saturday, Feb. 8, taking on Lubbock Christian (RV).  The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
