Lobos Never Back Down

ALPINE, Texas. – It was 90 minutes of heart and effort every game for the Sul Ross State University women's soccer team.  The Lobos had six Top 10 LSC rankings, three leaders and five additions to the record book with a school record.

It was a tough schedule as five teams qualified for the post-season with three selected to the NCAA Division II Tournament.  Sul Ross State had eight losses by two goals or less including a 1-0 loss to NCAA qualifier Texas Woman's.  The Lobos had wins over Southwest (N.M.) and Eastern New Mexico for the first time in program history.

Against Southwest (Sept. 13), Cali Triggs scored just 58 seconds into the game.  That was the second quickest goal from start in program history.  SRSU had four LSC statistical leaders, the first time that has happened.

Head Coach John Dominguez
"This past season proved something important: the gap is closing. With 17 new players stepping into one of the toughest conferences in Division II, we showed growth in moments that don't always show up on a scoreboard. But anyone who watched us closely could see it: the fight, the maturity, the belief, and the willingness to compete.

Even though the record didn't reflect what we wanted, it did reflect our potential. We were in games that used to be out of reach. We matched intensity, closed margins, and learned what it truly takes to win in this conference. That matters. That's falling forward.

Now that our transition period is behind us, this group has laid the foundation for who we are becoming. This spring is about sharpening our identity, defining how we want to look on the ball, and building a style of play that earns respect in this conference. With the returners we have and the new pieces we're adding the playoffs are within reach, and that's the standard moving forward. Nothing less.

The culture is shifting. The belief is real. And with this group, I'm confident we're moving toward something special.  The mindset is play the game without the fear of failure. "
