Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lobos Duke It Out With Mustangs

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Sul Ross State University women's soccer team (1-6-2 Lone Star Conference, 1-8-3) lost 3-0 to #8 Midwestern State (8-1-1 LSC, 12-1-1), Saturday afternoon at Stang Park.

Sul Ross State came out quickly having a potential goal stopped by a great play from the MSU keeper just 40 seconds into the contest.  Midwestern State scored at the 3:40 mark.

For the next 54 minutes, the Lobos kept the Mustangs at bay with solid defense and strong goaltending from freshman Kat Graves.  MSU got the insurance goal at the 57:41 mark.

Graves finished with five saves.

Sul Ross State head coach John Dominguez
"Today was about making the most of our opportunities.  Midwestern State is eight in the nation for a reason.  Against a team of that quality, chances are hard to come by.  We had five shots and three were chances we could have put in the back of the net.  We have to make those moments count.

Every game won't go the way we want.  But even when we aren't controlling the game, we can still do something with the opportunities we earn.  If our ambition is to compete with teams like this for a conference championship, we need to be decisive when those chances come.  The statistics don't take those opportunities from us.  Today's lesson is clear: creating the chance is only part of the job.  We have to finish it."

Sul Ross State stays on the road, Wednesday, Oct. 14, playing Eastern New Mexico.  The game is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. MT
