Lobos Light Up the Scoreboard in Silver City Shootout

Silver City, N.M. — The Sul Ross State University football team (0-7, 0-5 LSC) fell 45-42 against Western New Mexico University (2-5, 1-4 LSC) Saturday night at Ben Altamirano Field in Silver City, New Mexico.

The Lobos found the end zone six times in the contest. Justin Moon opened the scoring for Sul Ross with a 39-yard punt return touchdown in the first quarter. Quarterback Kye Callicoatte connected with Cade Hays on a 5-yard touchdown pass before adding two rushing scores of his own from three and five yards out. Jose Trevino added a 5-yard rushing touchdown, while Kyree Payton electrified the special teams unit with a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown — marking the third straight season the Lobos have returned a kickoff for a score. The Lobos totaled 178 yards on the ground, led by Trevino's 89 yards on 14 carries, while Taribbean Ramirez paced the receiving corps with eight catches for 117 yards.

Defensively, Darryl Minor Jr. led the Lobos with a game-high 18 tackles, including one sack and a tackle for loss. Brendon Martin followed with seven tackles and a pass breakup, while also reaching 126 career solo tackles — tying him for fourth all-time in school history.

Sul Ross returns home on Saturday, October 25, for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff against Angelo State at Jackson Field in another Lone Star Conference matchup.
