Lobos And Patriots Fit To Be Tied

ALPINE, Texas – Three records were tied as the Sul Ross State University men's soccer team (2-1-2 Lone Star Conference, 5-3-4) battled UT Tyler (1-4=2 LSC, 3-7-3) to a 1-1 tie, Saturday afternoon at Lobo Soccer Field. 

Sophomore Benjamin Aviles kept Sul Ross State in the game with several spectacular saves in the first half.

In the second half at the 60:29 mark, Aviles booted a goal kick down the field.  Freshman Sebastian Martinez took the ball on the run and fired it into the net to make it 1-0.

Both teams had several near misses.  With 6:31 to go, the Lobos were called for a handball in the box.  The Patriots converted to tie the game.

Sul Ross State had five shots with two on goal, two corner kicks and were called for eight fouls.  Aviles finished with seven saves.  The Lobos tied the team records with 21 goals, 15 assists and 57 points.

UT Tyler had 15 shots with eight on goal, 10 corner kicks and were called for 12 fouls.

Sul Ross State takes to the road, Wednesday, Oct. 22, playing Dallas Baptist.  The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
