Sul Ross State Drops One To Lady Chaps

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Sul Ross State University women's basketball team (1-7 Lone Star Conference, 2-9) lost 78-41 to #18 Lubbock Christian (7-1 LSC, 13-3), Thursday evening at Rip Griffin Center.

Sul Ross State drew first blood as senior Cheyanne Bonilla scored in traffic at the 9:21 mark.  For the first four minutes, the Lobos played tough against Lubbock Christian.

Junior Melody Martinez hit a bucket to make it 10-4, Lady Chaps with 6:27 to go.  LCU scored 12 straight points to seal the game.

The Lobos were extremely strong on defensive rebounds, pulling down 22 to just seven offensive boards for the Lady Chaps.  That was a key factor in LCU getting only three second chance points.

For Sul Ross State, Martinez scored 11 points while graduate student Caitlyn Corley had nine points and seven rebounds.

For Lubbock Christian, Grace Foster and Aubrey Robertson scored 15 points each.

Sul Ross State stays on the road, Saturday, Jan. 11 taking on Midwestern State.  The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
