Lobos See Mustangs Ride Away

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Junior Melody Martinez and freshman TaMaiya Mims hit double-figures for points as the Sul Ross State University women's basketball team (1-8 Lone Star Conference, 2-10) lost 80-60 to Midwestern State (4-5 LSC, 6-9), Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

For the first five and a half minutes, Sul Ross State and Midwestern State went back-and-forth.  Freshman Maddie Rhea scored off a fast break to put the Lobos up 6-4 at the 6:43 mark.

The Mustangs took the lead back with 5:57 to go.  Mims hit a tough shot in traffic to close the gap to 14-10 at the 4:40 mark.  MSU scored 12 straight points to effectively seal the game.

The Lobos shut down the Mustangs from outside allowing them to shoot just 26.7% behind the arc.

For Sul Ross State, Mims had 16 points and three steals while Martinez scored 12 points with two triples.

For Midwestern State, Zarria Carter had 37 points and 16 rebounds.

Sul Ross State remains on the road, Thursday, Jan. 16 taking on Eastern New Mexico.  The game is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
