Sul Ross State Opens Season On The Road

LOS LUNAS, New Mexico – The Sul Ross State University softball team (0-2) opened the season at the South Central Regional, Friday at Los Lunas Sports Complex.  The Lobos lost 17-1 to UC-Colorado Springs (1-0) and 11-1 to Simon Fraser (1-1).

The Mountain Lions scored five runs over the first two innings to seal the game.

For Sul Ross State, freshman Taylor Terrazas stole home in the fifth inning.  Junior Leanza Chambers (0-1) gave up six hits, five runs with three earned and struck out one in two innings.

For UC-Colorado Springs, Hannah Hunt (1-0) gave up three hits, one run and struck out four in five innings.

Simon Fraser scored five runs in the third inning to break the game open.

For Sul Ross State, freshman Jenna Leanos had two hits and freshman Alexandra Ramos had a triple.  Sophomore Larryn Rooks (0-1) gave up two hits, one run (which was unearned) and walked two in two innings.

For Simon Fraser, Jordyn Ruppel (1-0) gave up four hits, one run and struck out five in five innings.

Sul Ross State remains in Los Lunas taking on Adams State and New Mexico Highlands.  The games are scheduled to start at 3:00 and 5:30 P.M., MT, respectively.
