Lobos Fight All Day Long

LOS LUNAS, New Mexico – Junior Tori Owens had four hits as the Sul Ross State University softball team (0-4) finished Day 2 of the South Central Regional Crossover, Saturday at Los Lunas Sports Complex.  The Lobos lost 4-2 to Adams State (1-3) and 10-8 to New Mexico Highlands (2-2).

Adams State
Adams State struck first scoring a run in the third inning.  In the fifth inning, junior Elizabeth Clemente walked and was replaced by pinch runner, senior Jasmine Garcia.  Sophomore Kaitlynn Frakes singled moving Garcia to second.

Garcia took advantage of an error on the play to score making it 1-1.  The Grizzlies would score three runs in the bottom half of the inning.

In the top of the seventh, with one out, Frakes and junior Kyndell Garcia singled.  A ground out moved Frakes to third and Garcia to second.  A passed ball scored Frakes and put Garcia at third.  ASU got the batter to ground out to end the game.

For Sul Ross State, Frakes had two hits.  Senior Alyvia Quintana (0-1) gave up seven hits, four runs with two earned and struck out three in six innings.

For Adams State, Makenzie Simon had two hits, scored twice and drove in three runs.  Aubree Davis (1-0) gave up six hits, two runs with one earned, walked two and struck out one in seven innings.

New Mexico Highlands
In the first inning, freshman Jenna Leanos singled and stole second.  Leanos moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a double from Owens.

Senior Ciera Avila drew a walk, then Owens moved to third on a fly ball.  The Lobos pulled off a double steal with Owens scoring and Avila moving to second to put SRSU up 2-0.

New Mexico Highlands scored twice in the second inning to make it 2-2.  In the fifth with one out, freshman Alexandra Ramos drew a walk.  Owens singled through the left side; Ramos went to third on an error and Owens ended up at second.

An error on a sacrifice bunt loaded the bases with one out.  Back-to-back walks pushed Ramos and Owens across the plate.

That put Sul Ross State up 4-2.  The Cowgirls would pick up six runs in the bottom half.  The Lobos and New Mexico Highlands would each score twice in the sixth inning to make it 10-6, Cowgirls going into the seventh inning.

Following an out, Frakes walked and scored on a double to dead center field by K. Garcia.  K. Garcia moved to third on a ground out and scored off a base hit from Leanos.  NMHU got the next batter out to end the game.
