Lobos Fall To Rambelles

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Junior Victoria Aguayo and sophomore Melody Martinez scored in double-figures as the Sul Ross State University women's basketball team (1-13 Lone Star Conference, 2-15) lost 97-60 to Angelo State (11-3 LSC, 15-5), Thursday evening at Stephens Arena.

Sul Ross State and Angelo State played a tactical game for the first two minutes.  Aguayo hit a lay-up to cut the gap to one, 4-3 at the 8:07 mark.

The Rambelles scored eight straight points to lead 11-3.  Buckets from freshman TaMaiya Mims and Aguayo made it 11-7, ASU with 5:53 to go.  Angelo State closed the period on a 13-6 run to seal the game.

The Lobos allowed the Rambelles to shoot just 28.2% on 3-pointers.  This is the third game over the last four that the Lobos held their opponents to under 30% from behind the arc.

For Sul Ross State, Aguayo had 17 points and nine rebounds and was 5-of-6 from the line while Martinez scored 14 points and hit three triples.

For Angelo State, Keniah Williams had 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Sul Ross State remains on the road, Saturday, Feb. 1, playing UT Permian Basin.  The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
