Lobos Slug It Out With Rams

SAN ANGELO, Texas –Four players scored in double-figures as the Sul Ross State University men's basketball team (2-12 Lone Star Conference, 3-16) lost 85-73 to Angelo State (8-6 LSC, 12-8), Thursday night at Stephens Arena.

For the first six minutes, Sul Ross State and Angelo State were trading buckets.  Senior Ethan Yancy knocked down a 3-point bomb to close to 12-11 at the 14:43 mark.

The Rams scored 10 straight points to go up 22-11 with 9:46 to go.  The Lobos refused to give up the fight.  Junior Louie Yebra dropped one in from the ozone to make it 43-36 at halftime.  ASU went on an 8-3 run over the first four minutes of the second half to take control.

It was a tale of two cities from 3-point range.  The Lobos shot 43.3% from behind the arc, their second-best performance of the season.  SRSU held the Rams to just 29.6% on triples, the fifth time in the last six games that an opponent has been under 30%.

For Sul Ross State, Yancy had 23 points, seven rebounds, five assists and hit four treys, senior Cam Clardy scored 19 points and shot 7-of-14 from the floor and junior Deon Brown added 10 points.  Senior Cailean Ables came off the bench to score 11 points with three triples.

For Angelo State, Shemar Smith scored 19 points.

Sul Ross State closes out the road trip, Saturday Feb. 1, taking on UT Permian Basin.  The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
