Sul Ross State See Falcons Fly Away
ALPINE, Texas – The Sul Ross State University women's basketball team (1-5 Lone Star Conference, 2-8) lost 79-50 to The University of Texas Permian Basin (5-1 LSC, 7-5), Friday night at the Gallego Center.
For the first two minutes, Sul Ross State and Texas Permian Basin went back and forth. Freshman TaMaiya Mims hit a fast break bucket to make it 5-2, Falcons at the 7:52 mark.
UTPB went on a 15-6 burst to lead 20-8 with 4:01 to go. The Lobos gritted their teeth and roared back.
Freshman Sophiya Bustillos knocked down a 3-pointer from deep in the heart of Texas. That ended a 7-0 run to close the gap to 20-15 at the 2:47 mark. UTPB scored the last five points of the first quarter to seal the game.
For Sul Ross State, senior Cheyanne Bonilla led the way with 15 points.
For UT Permian Basin, Taysha Rushton scored 12 points to lead five double-figure scorers.
Sul Ross State remains home, Sunday, Jan. 5 taking on Angelo State. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
