Lobos Watch Dust Devils Swirl Away

ALPINE, Texas – Junior Victoria Aguayo had a double-double as the Sul Ross State University women's basketball team (1-11 Lone Star Conference, 2-13) lost 84-62 to Texas A&M International (3-9 LSC, 4-13), Thursday evening at the Peter P. Gallego Center.

For the first four minutes of the game, Sul Ross State and Texas A&M International went back-and-forth.  Graduate student Caitlyn Corley hit a tough shot in the paint.

That put the Lobos up 6-4 at the 6:29 mark.  The Dust Devils scored nine straight points to lead 13-6 with 4:46 to go.

SRSU fired back with a 7-2 burst.  Senior Cheyanne Bonilla knocked down a jumper to cut the margin to 15-13 at the 3:21 mark.  TAMIU led by three to six points the rest of the period.

In the second period, Texas A&M International led by at least seven points the whole period.  Down 45-31 with 9:41 to go in the third period, Sul Ross State fired back.

Bonilla scored off a fast break to end a run of eight straight points.  The put the Lobos down, 45-39 at the 8:13 mark.  The Dust Devils scored eight straight points to finally take control.

For Sul Ross State, Bonilla had 18 points and three steals while Aguayo had 14 points, 10 rebounds and shot 6-of-11 from the floor.  Freshman Sophiya Bustillos scored 11 points off the bench.

For Texas A&M International, Mia Monroe scored 23 points.

Sul Ross State remains home, Saturday, Jan. 25, playing Texas A&M Kingsville.  The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
