Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lobos Bag Up Dust Devils

ALPINE, Texas – It was a furious comeback as the Sul Ross State University men's basketball team (2-10 Lone Star Conference, 3-14) beat Texas A&M International (4-8 LSC, 9-14), Thursday night at Pete P. Gallego Center.  It was the first LSC win at home and snapped an 11-game home losing streak.

For the first 16 minutes of the game, Sul Ross State and Texas A&M International battled on even terms.  Senior Tyler Jackson hit a twisting layup to cut the gap to 27-24 with 4:20 to go.  The Dust Devils closed the half with a 12-4 burst to lead by 11 at the break.

Down 46-28 with 18:04 to go, the Lobos began to whittle down TAMIU.  At the 7:59 mark, senior Ethan Yancy dropped one in from downtown.

That put SRSU up 60-59.  From there, Sul Ross State and Texas A&M International played a game of trading buckets.

Trailing 74-72, senior Cam Clardy drove the length of a floor to hit a lay-up with 15 seconds to go.  The Dust Devils were not able to get a shot off and off to overtime they went.

In OT, TAMIU took the lead at the 4:45 mark and held it for over four and a half minutes.  Yancy hit a tough shot in the paint.

That gave the Lobos the lead 80-79 with just 12 seconds to go.  With three seconds to go, Clardy stole the ball and was quickly fouled.

Clardy hit both free throws to make it 82-79.  The Dust Devils three-point attempt bounced off the rim to preserve the win.

The Lobos had a strong shooting night hitting 47.3% from the floor, 42.1% behind the arc and 84.6% from the line.  SRSU pulled down 22 defensive board to nine offensive for the Dust Devils.

For Sul Ross State, Yancy scored 23 points with four triples, Clardy had 18 points and shot 9-of-9 from the line and Jackson scored 16 points while hitting all seven of his field goal attempts.  Off the bench, sophomore Myles Amason scored 11 points and blocked six shots.  He is just the second player in school history to have at least six blocks in a game twice.

For Texas A&M International, Anthony Ignowski had 22 points.

Sul Ross State stays home, Saturday, Jan. 25, taking on Texas A&M Kingsville.  The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
