WOMEN'S SOCCER: Lobos fall to Greyhounds 1-0 in home opener

At home for the first time this season, the Sul Ross State women's soccer team battled valiantly, but ultimately the ball bounced in favor of the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds.

Eastern New Mexico took the contest, 1-0, at the Lobo Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams had to endure a nearly hour and a half delay due to the officials traveling.

>> HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Greyhounds were already taking aim at the goal early in the contest with three shots on goal.

ENMU finally found the back of the net in the 26th minute with a goal by Meghann Wingsutton that came off an assist by Mariana Jimenez Gonzalez.

Sul Ross State had three shots on goal before the end of the first half, but it couldn't capitalize.

  • Goalkeeper Benita Carreon made her first start in the goal, making 10 saves.
  • The Greyhounds had 15 shots with 11 coming at the goal.

  • Sarayi Serrano finished with two shots and one shot on goal.
