SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Lone Star Conference play is officially underway.
On Wednesday night, the Sul Ross State women's soccer team suffered a 7-1 loss to the St. Mary's Rattlers at Sigma Beta Chi Field.
>> HOW IT HAPPENED:
St. Mary's took a 1-0 lead during the 21st minute on a penalty kick goal from Shelby Paniagua.
Seven minutes later, Malia Dominguez scored off an assist by Paniagua.
Paniagua scored her second goal of the contest in the 30th minute on another penalty kick to make the score 3-0.
With an assist from Laura Poole, the Rattlers found the back of the net in the 40th minute with a goal by Annabelle Rodriguez.
Dominguez scored another goal in the 51st minute to give the Rattlers a commanding 4-0 lead at the half.
St. Mary's tallied 11 shots in the opening half while holding the Lobos to three.
In the 70th minute, Natalie Gonzalez found the back of the net.
The Lobos erased the shutout when
Karina Gallegos scored in the 77th minute.
Rodriguez scored her second goal of the game in the 87th minute.
