BASEBALL: Falcons out slug Lobos

On a picture-perfect Wednesday afternoon at Kokernot Field, the Sul Ross State baseball team hosted a future Lone Star Conference opponent in the University of Texas-Permian Basin Falcons.

The Lobos had a good start, leading 9-4 through two innings.

Things then changed in a split second.

UTPB unleashed the floodgates by rallying for 11 runs in the top of the fifth to take the game 20-10 in seven innings.

>> HOW IT HAPPENED:

After Hunter Staff retired the side in order in the top of the first, the Lobos began the bottom half of the inning by getting three-straight singles from Primo Vasquez, Aaron Morales and Christopher Ulloa.

After two quick outs, the Lobos took a 2-0 lead on a two RBI single up the middle by Ricardo Franco.

As Jared Roiz walked to load up the bases, Alvaro Hernandez hit a bases-clearing three RBI double to dead center to make the score 5-0.

Caleb Boswell cut the deficit to two runs with a three-run home run in the top of the second. The Falcons then got to within one on an RBI single by Carson Johnson.

Xavier Garcia helped extend the Lobo lead to 8-4 after he belted a three-run home run to left center in the bottom of the second. Sul Ross State added one more run in the frame with an RBI double by Roiz.

Down 9-4, the Falcons began to chip away by scoring one run in the top of the third.

On three hits, UTPB tied up the game at nine-all in the top of the fourth. Ethan Flodstrom had a two RBI double to highlight the four-run rally.

Roiz gave the Lobos a 10-9 lead with an RBI single in the bottom half of the fourth.
