BASEBALL: SRSU splits twin bill with University of the Ozarks

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. — The Sul Ross State baseball team split the doubleheader with the University of the Ozarks Eagles on Friday afternoon at Clarksville High School's Dave Ross Baseball Stadium.

The Lobos took Game 1 by a score of 2-1 before dropping the series finale 11-1 in seven innings.

>> GAME 2:

The Eagles led 1-0 in the bottom of the first after a solo home run.

Sul Ross State answered back in the top of the second by scoring two runs. Alvaro Hernandez brought in Peyten Kennard with a sacrifice fly to left while Christopher Ulloa hit an RBI single to left.

>> RECORDS: Sul Ross State (7-17); University of the Ozarks (10-13)

>> GAME NOTES:
  • The Lobos were held to two hits.
  • Hernandez and Ulloa each went 1 for 2 with a single and an RBI.
  • Jacob Salinas earned his first win of the year after going six innings while tallying five strikeouts.
  • Sam Letz picked up his first save of the season after he allowed two hits and had one strikeout in one inning of relief.
>> GAME 3:

The Lobos trailed 5-0 before erasing the shutout in the top of the fifth.

After a one-out single by Hernandez, Primo Vasquez came up and hit an infield single to put runners at the corners.

Aaron Morales then drove in Hernandez with a fielder's choice to short.

The Eagles scored a run in the sixth while they pushed across five runs in the seventh to end the game early due to the run-rule.

>> GAME NOTES:
  • Vasquez went 3 for 4 with three singles.
  • Carsen Thor had a single to go 1 for 3 .
  • Hernandez also finished 1 for 3 with a single.
  • Ricardo Franco went 1 for 2 with a single and a walk.
>> UP NEXT: The Lobos host the University of Texas-Permian Basin for a single game at 5 p.m. CST on Wednesday, April 3.
