BASEBALL: Lobos defeat Eagles 5-4 to pick up first road win

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. — Trailing 3-0 in the top of the eighth, the Sul Ross State baseball team rallied back by scoring five runs to notch its first road win of the year with a 5-4 victory over the University of the Ozarks Eagles on Thursday afternoon at Clarksville High School's Dave Ross Baseball Stadium.

>> HOW IT HAPPENED:

Heading into the bottom of the third, the game was scoreless and there were only two hits between both teams.

The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the third with an RBI double.

In the fourth, Isaac Price hit a solo home run to extend the lead to 2-0.

The University of the Ozarks got another solo home run in the bottom of the sixth, this time from Britton Smith.

Sul Ross State got a leadoff double from Corbin Dube in the top of the eighth. Steven Mills then followed up with a single.

Jared Roiz got the Lobos on the board with an RBI single through the left side. Aaron Morales later delivered a clutch two RBI double to left to tie up the game.

Alvaro Hernandez gave the Lobos the lead when he scored on a wild pitch. Peyten Kennard then drove in Morales with a sacrifice fly to right to make the score 5-3.

The Eagles managed to score one more run in the bottom of the eighth as Lane Carosh scored on a wild pitch.

>> GAME NOTES:
  • Morales went 1 for 4 with the double and two RBI.
  • Estevan Ortiz extended his hitting streak to 10 games as he finished 1 for 4 with a single.
  • Ortiz is batting a team-high .431 with a team-best .486 on base percentage.
  • Mills and Roiz each went 1 for 4 with a single.
  • Dube also went 1 for 4 with a double.
  • Gage Cobb struck out five batters in seven innings of work.
  • Sam Letz improved to 3-0 on the year after throwing one inning allowing one earned run while fanning one batter.
  • Christian Loveless picked up the first save of the year for the Lobo bullpen after striking out one batter and allowing one hit in a scoreless inning of work.
