Despite a competitive third set, the Sul Ross State volleyball suffered a sweep to the UT Tyler Patriots during the home finale Saturday afternoon at the Pete P. Gallego Center.
>> HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Lobos trailed by one point after a kill from
Edie Coleman early in the first set.
Using a 3-0 run, UT Tyler went ahead by six in the middle of the set before closing things out on a 5-1 run to win the set by 10.
Eliana Mata got the Lobos on the board with the first point of the second set as she served up an ace.
The Patriots then scored eight unanswered points until
Jayci Richters got a kill.
UT Tyler later went on a 6-0 run to make the score 14-2.
Fueled by kills from Coleman and
Cassandra Espinoza and a service ace by
Miranda Acosta, the Lobos finally got some momentum to go on a 4-0 run to cut the deficit to nine.
The deficit was too much to overcome as the Patriots won by 11 to take a 2-0 advantage.
Sul Ross State flipped the script in the third set by using a 5-0 run to lead 8-3. Acosta served up two aces during the run.
The Lobos continued their positive momentum with a 10-5 lead after Espinoza had another kill.
UT Tyler cut the deficit to two points, but Sul Ross State responded with three unanswered points to stay on top.
After a kill from
Angelli Sanchez and an ace by
Brylee Sweeten, the Lobos took a six-point lead.
The Patriots pulled off an 8-0 run to swing the momentum in their favor by taking an 18-16 lead.
Sul Ross State managed to get within two points, but UT Tyler finished off the set with a 3-0 run.
