It was quite the interesting finish to the Sul Ross State men's soccer team's 2024 season.
With the visiting UT Tyler Patriots on the bubble for the Lone Star Conference playoffs, the Lobos were trying to play spoiler.
Both teams had their ample opportunities to find the back of the net, but the game ended in a scoreless draw on Wednesday afternoon at the Lobo Soccer Field during Senior Day festivities.
>> HOW IT HAPPENED:
Benjamin Aviles and the Lobo defense were impenetrable in the opening half. Aviles was a brick wall making seven saves in the first half.
The Lobos had two shot attempts late in the half as
Zachary Trimming fired a shot that missed out to the right of the net during the 41st minute.
As both teams were fighting to find the back of the net, the contest turned dicey as the cards started to be handed out.
Sul Ross State had five of its seven total shot attempts in the second half.
The match then took an interesting turn after Sul Ross State head coach Bailey Guffin was issued a yellow and red card during the 61st minute.
As
Ryan Seidon stepped up to take over the helm, the Lobos kept battling as they attempted three more shots before the final whistle.
Four more yellow cards were issued down the stretch as the Patriots and Lobos were literally clawing at each other's jerseys while fighting for possession.
In the end, both teams' defenses stood strong.
