VOLLEYBALL: Lobos fall to Javelinas in season finale

KINGSVILLE, Texas — In the season finale Saturday afternoon, the Sul Ross State volleyball team suffered a sweep to the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas at the Steinke Center.

>> HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Lobos scored three unanswered points to start the first set as Anna Kasper and Natalie Hernandez tallied back-to-back kills.

Texas A&M-Kingsville went on a 6-0 run to take the lead.

Sul Ross State cut the deficit to one, but the Javelinas scored three straight points to lead 12-7.

The Lobos answered back with a 4-0 run to trail by one point. Hernandez and Angelli Sanchez each tallied a kill to highlight the run.

Texas A&M-Kingsville closed out the set with four unanswered points.

There were five lead changes early in the second set until the Javelinas scored three straight points to lead 10-7.

Sul Ross State got to within one after a kill by Edie Coleman, but Texas A&M-Kingsville used a 6-0 run to extend its lead to seven.

The Javelinas scored the final three points to secure a 2-0 advantage in the match.

Texas A&M-Kingsville began the final set on a 4-0 run. It later used a 6-0 run to extend the lead to 10.

The Javelinas never trailed for the rest of the set.

  • Kasper led the offense with six kills while she also had three digs.
  • Sanchez added with four kills and two block assists.
  • Eliana Mata and Brylee Sweeten each tallied seven assists.
  • Tatyana Colon had 18 digs.
