MEN'S SOCCER: Lobos get back on track with 2-0 win over West Texas A&M

CANYON, Texas — It has been 21 days since the Lobo men's soccer team was able to celebrate a goal.

On Saturday afternoon, the Lobos snapped their four-game losing streak with a 2-0 victory over West Texas A&M at The Pitch at Buffalo Sports Park.

Sul Ross State not only gets back to .500 with its first Lone Star Conference victory, but this year's squad has now set the program record for overall wins in a season.

>> HOW IT HAPPENED:

It was a scoreless first half as the Lobos were held to just two shots.

Sul Ross State got its equalizer from Zachary Trimming in the 50th minute that came off an assist by Lewis Coates.

Three minutes later, Trimming found the back of the net once again, this time with an assist from Jesus Duque in the 53rd minute.

>> GAME NOTES:
  • Trimming now leads the team with three goals.
  • Trimming's last goal came during the season opener back on Sept. 7 against University of the Southwest.
  • Sul Ross State finished with 10 shots and five shots on goal.
  • Carlos Gonzalez and Coates each had two shots and one shot on goal.
  • Trimming tallied three shots and three shots on goal.
  • Benjamin Aviles made five saves. He now has 37 saves on the season.
  • Aviles was three saves shy of tying his season-best mark of eight, which came on Sept. 12 against Montana State-Billings.
  • Aviles is the second-best goalkeeper in the LSC. He has now helped the Lobos notch four shutouts.
  • The Lobos also set the program record for shutouts in a season, surpassing the previous mark of three set in 2021.
  • The five wins this season also sets a new program record for wins in a season surpassing the four victories set by the 2018 and 2021 squads.
