Behind a solid team performance, it came down to the wire Saturday afternoon.
With the game tied at 65-all late in the fourth quarter, the Lobo women's basketball team put up a valiant effort, however, the McMurry War Hawks won the heart-pounding contest, 68-65, at the Pete P. Gallego Center.
>> HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Lobos led by as much as 11 in the opening quarter.
McMurry held a brief 3-0 lead until Sul Ross State went on a 6-0 run as
Victoria Aguayo made the first four points.
The War Hawks cut the deficit to one before the Lobos put together a 10-0 run to pull ahead by a score of 16-5.
Marley Rokas accounted for five points during the run.
McMurry closed out the quarter with a 5-0 run to trail by six.
Sul Ross State began the second quarter on a 6-0 run with points in the paint from
Cheyanne Bonilla,
Kayley Diaz and Aguayo.
Trailing by 12, McMurry used a 7-0 run to cut the deficit down to five at the 5:24 mark.
The War Hawks then went on a 4-0 run to trail by three.
Using two quick steals by Aguayo and Bonilla, the Lobos scored four points on a pair of fast break layups by Aguayo and
Ariana Escalante to extend their lead to seven with 1:38 left in the first half.
McMurry made two 3-pointers to close out the half to trail by one at the break.
The score was tied five times in the third quarter.
As the pendulum went back and forth, McMurry gained a five-point lead at the 3:19 mark before
Caitlyn Corley got the Lobos to within three on a jumper in the paint.
With a 5-0 run, Sul Ross State took a one-point lead. The War Hawks then went up by two after making a three-pointer.
Emily Bunger made a jumper in the paint to tie up the score at 49-all at the end of three.
There were three different lead changes in the final quarter.
The Lobos were down by four before tying up the score at 53-all on a pair of made shots in the paint by Rokas and Bonilla.
McMurry raced ahead to a four-point lead on two occasions, but the Lobos answered back each time by cutting the deficit to one.
Bonilla stepped up into the clutch and knocked down a three-pointer at the 1:37 mark to put the Lobos within one.
The War Hawks extended their lead to two after Emily Holland went 1 for 2 at the free throw line.
Rokas later tied up the game at 65-all with a pair of free throws with 28 seconds remaining.
McMurry landed three free throws down the stretch to pull away.

- Rokas recorded her fourth straight double-double as she scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
- Rokas now has 905 career points to move her up to 10th on the all-time scoring list. She surpassed Dana Souter who was 10th with 876 career points scored from 1986-1989.
- Aguayo added with 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Aguayo continues to lead the conference with 73 steals while she ranks second with 149 total rebounds.
- Bonilla finished with 10 points, three assists and three steals. Bonilla's team-best 61 assists rank third in the American Southwest Conference.
- Bunger chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds.
- Diaz had seven points and a season-high seven assists.
- Escalante tallied six points and eight rebounds.
- The Lobos won the battle on the glass with 45 rebounds compared to 36 pulled in by McMurry.
- Sul Ross State shot 8 for 12 from the free throw line while it scored 30 points in the paint.
