ABILENE, Texas — On Saturday afternoon, the Sul Ross State volleyball team was swept by Hardin-Simmons University at the Mabee Complex.
>> HOW IT HAPPENED:
There were four lead changes to start the first set.
Hardin-Simmons then went on an 8-0 run to pull away and lead 14-6.
The Lobos cut the deficit to four, but the Cowgirls used a 4-0 run to extend their lead to eight.
To start the second set, Sul Ross State went on an early 5-0 run highlighted by two kills from
Loren Garcia and a service ace from
Tatyana Colon.
Hardin-Simmons took an 8-7 lead using a 5-0 run before the lead changed twice.
The Cowgirls used a late 4-0 run to gain some breathing room to take the 2-0 lead in the match.
Cassandra Espinoza and
Loren Garcia tallied back to back kills early in the third set, giving the Lobos a 5-2 lead.
Using a 5-0 run, Hardin-Simmons flipped the script to take a 12-6 lead.
Sul Ross State was able to cut the deficit to two points before Hardin-Simmons used another 4-0 run to its advantage to break away.
