HOUSTON, Texas — For the first time in program history, the Sul Ross State women's soccer team took on a Division I opponent in a non-exhibition match.
On Thursday night, the Lobos met the Texas Southern University Tigers at Alexander Durley Stadium.
Sul Ross State held its own during the second half despite coming up short with the 3-1 loss.
>> HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Tigers scored six minutes into the first half.
Texas Southern controlled the possession as it extended its lead to 2-0 in the 42nd minute.
During the 46th minute in the second half, the Lobos erased the shutout with a goal from
Karina Gallegos that came off an assist by
Deserie Herrera.
The Tigers got one more goal in the 54th minute.

- The Lobos recorded eight shots, with five coming on the mark. All eight shots were taken in the second half.
- Sienna Ramirez tallied four shots, two came on the mark.
- Herrera, Yissel Olivares and Daniela Ibarra had one shot each.
- Eliya Alvidrez made five saves in 55 minutes played.
- Celeste De La Rosa had one save in 34 minutes on the pitch.
- Gallegos is tied for the team lead in goals with two alongside Sarayi Serrano.
- Alvidrez entered the match as the best goalkeeper in the American Southwest Conference. She now has 25 saves.
- The Lobos lead the conference in saves with 26.
