Sarayi Serrano notched two goals during the Sul Ross State women's soccer teams season opener against the University of the Southwest Mustangs on Friday morning at the Lobo Soccer Field.
Tied 1-1 at the half, the Mustangs rallied for four goals in the second half to pull away with the 5-3 victory.
>> HOW IT HAPPENED:
Serrano broke the ice 31 seconds into the contest as she put the Lobos up 1-0.
The Mustangs answered back in the 21st minute with a goal by Maya Sanchez.
Karina Gallegos gave Sul Ross State the 2-1 lead with a goal during the 49th minute.
University of the Southwest then notched two goals as Arlette Yanez scored off an assist by Elizabeth Rico in the 58th minute and Rylee Thatcher put the Mustangs ahead 3-2 with a goal in the 69th minute off an assist from Maureen Camacho.
Thatcher picked up her second goal to make the score 4-2 in the 72nd minute.
Serrano then cut the deficit to one as she scored in the 74th minute.
Gizel Lopez tallied the final blow in the 83rd minute.

- Sul Ross State had 21 shots, with 13 coming on the mark.
- Yissel Olivares and Serrano each had four shots while Deserie Herrera had three.
- Eliya Alvidrez made five saves, with three coming in the second half.
- Sul Ross State's last meeting against University of the Southwest came on Sept. 7, 2019.
