BROWNWOOD — Behind a four-hit shutout by
Leanza Chambers, the Sul Ross State softball team avoided the sweep by notching a 4-0 victory over the Howard Payne University Yellow Jackets on Saturday afternoon at Lady Jackets Park.

After both teams were held scoreless in the first two innings, the Lobos broke the ice by pushing across a run with an RBI double down the right field line by
Nadia Valverde in the top of the third.
In the top of the fifth,
Annika Canaba and Valverde led off the inning with a pair of singles.
Jaelyn Zuniga later drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to right.
Adriana Hernandez brought in the final two runs of the contest with a two-RBI single up the middle in the top of the seventh.
The Lobos took advantage of four errors by Howard Payne while they also out-hit the Yellow Jackets, 10-4.
Chambers improved to 8-3 with the complete-game outing. This was her second complete-game shutout since March 24.
Samantha Chavez continues her hot streak at the plate as she extended her hitting streak to 16 games. Chavez finished 1 for 4 with a single.
Valverde went 2 for 4 with a single, a double and an RBI. Valverde finished the series with five hits as she raises her batting average to .400 while she also rides a five-game hit streak.
Canaba extended her hit streak to seven games after going 1 for 4 with the single. She has a team-high 35 hits and .402 batting average.
Camryn Hardin tallied two singles to go 2 for 4. Hardin tallied six hits during the three-game series.
Veronica Rodriguez had a double and a single to finish 2 for 4 while Hernandez went 2 for 3 with two singles and two RBI.
