ODESSA — The 13-game road trip came to an end on Tuesday afternoon for the Sul Ross State baseball team.
Sul Ross made the quick trip to Odessa to take on the University of Texas-Permian Basin at Roden Field.
This was the first meeting between both schools since Feb. 21, 2017.
UTPB ended up victorious 15-5 in eight innings.
The Lobos trailed 3-0 in the bottom of the first before getting on the board in the top of the second when
Kevin Potts scored on a balk.
UTPB scored seven runs over the next three innings to extend the lead to nine runs.
Despite the deficit, Sul Ross kept battling.
Jared Roiz hit a one-out triple in the sixth.
Primo Vasquez drove in Roiz with a ground out to short.
The Lobos scored three runs in the seventh.
Mateo Saenz and
Alvaro Hernandez hit back-to-back singles to start off the inning.
Christian Garibay then reached on an error by the second baseman to load up the bases.
Ricardo Franco drew a walk and then
Lee Kubosh hit a two RBI double to right.
Sul Ross finished with eight hits.
Roiz finished 2 for 3 with a single, double and two walks while Vasquez went 1 for 4 with a double, a walk and an RBI.
Saenz and Hernandez each went 1 for 4 with a single. Franco tallied a single to go 1 for 3 with an RBI and a walk.
Potts also went 1 for 3 with a single and Kubosh finished 1 for 1.
It was a busy day for the Lobo pitching staff as eight different arms were used.
Aiden Becker got the start, throwing two innings allowing five hits.
Dean Foley and
Aidan Mow then came in for relief. The duo did not allow a single hit.
In one inning of relief, Brad Ansley struck out two batters.
Christian Loveless and
Ian Craigie threw the next three innings as they did not allow a single hit or run.
Logan Hersom and
A.J. Lear threw to the final eight batters.
